The seat is slightly rounded for comfort. Back slats and raised panels are walnut, remainder is oak. The lid of the storage area has a support to keep it from falling. Bench Specs: 37" Tall x 39" Long x 16 3/4" Deep Storage area is 36" Long x 13"  Wide x 12 1/2" Deep Appr. weight - 65 lbs. Constructed of solid wood 3/4" to 1 1/8" thick - back of storage area is 3/4" oak plywood unless ordered with raised panels Minimum Assembly: Only tool required is a Philips screwdriver.
